  • P6 - Mighty Me!

    Sun 22 Oct 2017

Primary Six have been very busy recently. Their current WAU topic is “The Human Body” and they have discovered so many new facts about themselves!

In recent weeks, they have skimmed and scanned non-fiction texts to find new information about specific organs in the body. They summarised this research and presented their findings to each other. The stomach group even carried out a smelly experiment to show how food is digested.

P6 completed a “Rethink your Drink” challenge where they estimated, investigated and measured the sugar content in various popular drinks. Additionally, they calculated how much fat there is in a regular McDonalds meal.

They met a new “pupil” called Bob. He doesn’t say much, but he is an interesting body to be around!

Primary Six have even kept their bodies healthy by exercising to body themed pop songs.

If you want to know more about how amazing your body is- just ask a P6 pupil. They are medics in training!

    Sat 14 Oct 2017
Ahoy there! Here in P2 we are midst our pirate topic. We've talked like pirates, written about them, and read about famous pirates. We've learnt about  their ships, the jobs on board and pretended to be pirates in our own ship in the playroom.  We designed and made our own boats and investigated how  to make them move in water. Alas next week is the end of our topic, so we're planning a pirate party. We are going to come to school dressed up,as pirates (teachers too),  and enjoy a whole day of pirate activities! So watch out for Captain Blackbeard, Pirate Pete, Grace O'Malley and their shipmates around the Foundation playground on Friday 20th. Yo ho ho me hearties!
  • Writing Instructions with P3Mc

    Sat 14 Oct 2017
P3McKenzie have been very busy learning all about instructional writing over the past few weeks. They have looked at lots of different types of instructions and have even had a go at writing their own. The children have been finding out all about bossy verbs, as they know that instructions have lots of them. They've played lots of games including 'Snakes and Ladders' to make them think about how they would write a set of instructions to teach others to play. Alex showed everyone how to 'blow a bubble' and as a class the children wrote all about the process of this. Their favourite pieces of instructions have been in ABL (Activity Based Learning) tasks. They have been making their own 'Mr Smiles' using digestive biscuits, chocolate spread and sweets...yummy! After making these the children wrote instructions to explain how they did it. They have also had to follow instructions to make a 'Brenda or Otto' puppet, based on their shared reading book 'Keep Going Brenda'. Everyone has loved learning about instructions and now know everything that is required to write a good set for others to follow.

  • P5M on Butterfly Watch!

    Fri 06 Oct 2017

The Primary Fives have been eagerly watching their hungry caterpillars over the past 3 weeks as part of their Animal Topic. Steadily growing, the caterpillars have spent the past week ‘tucked up’ inside their chrysalis and have had a few overnight stays as children took it in turn to ‘babysit’ them at home.

With movement on Monday, the children have been on ‘high alert’, as one by one the butterflies carefully emerged. We have had the opportunity to study the wings, legs, body parts and their ‘straw like’ tongue with first hand experience. What a week!

  • P7M exploring percentages

    Thu 05 Oct 2017
P7M have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages in Maths. They've been converting fractions to percentages and vice-versa; calculating percentages of quantities and solving problems with percentage increases and decreases. They've also had lots of fun with some Izak9 challenges - 'Fraction Action' and 'The Big Wall'. Everyone really enjoyed working on these and they helped consolidate all the learning which has taken place over the past couple of weeks.
