  • 'Class Economy' in P5M

    Wed 16 Mar 2016

It’s been an exciting week in P5, we have come to the end of our class economy and now it is time to spend!

Our boys and girls have been working hard to earn a salary by completing tasks and taking roles of responsibility. They have had opportunities to run a shop, work as a banker and assist in the daily running of a classroom by collecting books, being a teacher helper or monitoring homeworks.

Each week our pupils could spend their hard earned cash purchasing items in our class shop, such as sweet treats or small toys. Many pupils saved hard over the past weeks in order to purchase some higher value items such as vouchers for a Happy meal, Chocolate Heaven or ice cream party, they could even purchase a work experience voucher to assist in the nursery for a day!

We have spent this week trading in our vouchers and our photographs show the fun we had, and a little ‘over indulgence’!

  • Book Fair

    Wed 16 Mar 2016
We'd like to thank everyone who supported our recent Book Fair.  We sold an amazing £2900 worth of books which is an increase of £600 on our 2014 event.  This entitles us to 60% commission which means we have £1740 to spend - a great help to school in restocking our libraries and for guided reading material.  We hope the children are enjoying reading their new books.

    Mon 07 Mar 2016
P1P have had a very busy week learning lots about people who help us. On Tuesday 1st March Dr Barrett came to visit us to tell us about her job as a GP. We looked at lots of different instruments she uses in her surgery to help diagnose her patients! We learned lots of interesting facts about our bodies and had the opportunity to be doctors ourselves - that was great fun! Check out our pictures below to see what we got up to!

Continuing our theme of people who help us, on Wednesday 2nd March we went on a trip to the fire station! There was great excitement as we found out all about life as a fireman! We got to see how firemen put out a fire, how they slide down their pole when they hear the fire alarm and we all got to sit inside a fire engine!  Some of us tried on their helmets and others their fire proof coats- they were very heavy! We asked lots of questions and found our knowledge of Fireman Sam to be of great help!! Look at our photos below to see what great fun we had!

This past week has been another busy one in P3. The children have really been enjoying their Activity Based Learning times where they have been carrying out tasks related to our current Word Around Us theme of transport.  The children have been making their own pin models of different forms of transport, creating transport models from junk, building moving vehicles from large construction toys, recording one another giving travel reports, investigating how slopes and different surfaces affect the distance and speed of cars and they have even had the chance to visit our very own P3 travel agents, to book some exciting trips.

In order to answer a very good  question some children had asked, which was ‘how can big heavy boats float?’, we have had fun getting our hands wet while experimenting with plasticine to see what types of shapes float and which don’t.

We all really enjoyed Thursday which was World Book day, when we were allowed to take our books everywhere with us and just 'drop everything and read' each time the bell went…which  might explain why we were seen sitting in the middle of the PE hall, in our PE kits, reading!  Turns out we have some real book worms who were able to hunt and name all twenty characters from children’s books, who had been hidden around the hall.  Another enjoyable activity for World Book day.

Finally our last bit of big news is that after building up to it for some time, we have just started to do tens and units adding sums with carrying and it doesn’t look like very long before we’ll be experts.  Watch this space!
