The P4s left their school uniforms behind and went back in time to 1945. They enjoyed a wonderful party to celebrate the end of the war. Everyone waltzed, jived, sang songs and played outdoor games, thrilled at the news that they would soon be returning to their families in the city. The highlight of the day was a special treat of delicious vinegar cake … luckily they had been saving up lots of ration coupons. Have a look at the photographs on their Year Group page.
The P7 Mini Enterprise group worked in collaboration with “Bog Standard”- a local business which sells luxury candles and fragrances. We are grateful to Mrs Alix Mulholland who taught the children about running a business. The children worked very hard to design, produce, market and sell “Perfumed Pockets” to pupils from P3 to P7. They composed a song, performed a dance and acted out a little drama to persuade their customers to make some purchases. The perfumed pockets are little material covered scented sachets. The business was very successful and once the cost of materials was deducted, a fantastic profit of £335.85 was gained. This amount was presented to Diabetes UK in Assembly on 4th May.
The children were keen to support this charity as Rachel in P7 has diabetes and is also a member of the Mini Enterprise Group. As usual we are entering the Junior Industry Challenge competition which is run by SENTINUS. The children will explain their project using a Powerpoint presentation and a judge will chat with the P7 pupils involved. We are hopeful of obtaining a Gold Award again this year.
On Monday, 25th April, 54 P7 pupils set off on their long-awaited trip to Loch Insh activity centre in the Scottish Highlands. During their 5 day trip, pupils participated in the following activities:- orienteering, archery, problem-solving, skiing, snowboarding, mountain-biking, tour boat trip, wind-surfing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and raft-building! The weather this year proved to be something of a challenge with snow falling on 4 of our 5 days! However, the P7 pupils were up for the challenge; they wrapped up warmly and just got on with enjoying their activities. The Loch Insh instructors were very impressed with their effort and determination and, once again, commented positively on the excellent behaviour and attitude of our pupils. A highlight of the trip was the disco on the Thursday evening which everyone really enjoyed. All too soon it was time to head home and we all arrived safely, though with a few bumps and bruises, back at school at 10.20pm on Friday evening.
Check out the P7 Year Group page to see more photos from the trip.
