Boots’ opticians visit P6 to talk about eye health and literacy
On Friday 23rd September, two opticians from Boots at Forestside visited P6 pupils to explain how we should look after our eyes. We are currently studying the human body and presenting reports on the heart, the lungs , the intestines, the brain, the liver and the kidneys.
It was really interesting to hear about how our amazing eyes work and how opticians can carry out tests to check the health of our eyes. Emphasis was put on the need for good eye health and best possible vision for reading.
Boots are working in conjunction with the National Literacy Trust, a UK charity that promotes childhood literacy.
Everyone in P6 received a bookmark and each class was presented with a book called the Zoo keeper which included a range of little eye tests throughout the story.
Many thanks to Alison and Sarah from Boots at Forestside.
P.4 Say “Hello” In Different Languages
The P.4 children began Cairnshill’s celebration of European Day of Languages with a special Assembly. Key Stage 1 teachers and children were greeted in nine different languages before the entire year group sang their “Hello around the World” song.
The Assembly Hall was bedecked with colourful flags made by P.4 with lots of “Hellos” written on too. On 26th September (European Day of Languages) the children distributed special stickers throughout the school, where many different languages were spoken and celebrated!
The PSA 'Boden Party' will be held on Saturday 24th September from 10am-4pm in the Assembly Hall. Come and go when you please, stay and enjoy tea/coffee and home baking if you’re able! A great opportunity to see and try some of Boden’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection. 20% off all orders placed on the day. Free delivery and returns. Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our first fundraiser of the year.
We hope everyone managed to see the UTV news report about parking around schools. This has been an issue around Cairnshill PS for a long time and, as you know, we have consistently reminded parents to consider children's safety and the needs of residents when parking. It was good to see this highlighted in the news report - hopefully it's a useful reminder to everyone at the start of a new school year.
