The school entered the Best Kept School Awards this year and an awards ceremony took place at Stranmillis University College on Tuesday 18th June. Unfortunately the school did not come away with the big prize on this occasion but thanks should go to Mrs Barnes, Mrs Torney, the gardening club and the ECO Team for all their hard work and commitment throughout the year. The school looks fantastic and we were awarded a highly commended certificate.
One pupil however, came away from the ceremony as one of only 2 highly commended pupils in the Best Pupil Achiever category. Congratulations to Alex on his achievement!! The overall winning pupil was a post primary student in a rural school who was responsible for looking after the farm animals and livestock. During the ceremony, Alex was seen to be dreaming of how he could incorporate chickens and pigs into the school playground!!!!
Well done to Alex on all his hard work and great ideas throughout the year!
On Monday 10th June 2019, Derek Baker (Permanent Secretary) and Sara Long (Chief Executive of the Education Authority) visited Cairnshill PS. Following a tour of the school, the choir performed and the orchestra played songs from their May Musicale.
The morning ended with a meeting with some Board of Governor representatives to discuss the school, future vision and educational constraints. The morning was very useful and our visitors even ended with a trip to the kitchen to speak to Mavis Hamilton who is retiring at the end of the month after 23 years of service.
