  • Dairy Council visit P6

    Thu 27 Oct 2016
Primary Six were visited by Eimear and Tess from the Dairy Council.  They taught us the importance of keeping a healthy balanced lifestyle.  They showed us how much of each type of food we should be eating, explained that we need to spend at least an hour exercising daily and even taught us a rap and dance to help us to remember how to eat and live healthily.

  • P7 SU Group Go Bowling

    Wed 26 Oct 2016
As P5 & P6 pupils finished school early today for Parent-Teacher meetings, the P7 teachers took the opportunity to do something a little different for Scripture Union. Instead of meeting in school, the P7 SU members had the opportunity to go 10-pin bowling. Using the school minibus, the group travelled to Dundonald for some very competitive bowling! Despite some great bowling from the pupils, the teachers were victorious with both Miss Marshall and Mr Savage winning their lanes. Mr Savage had the highest score overall. There were some great scores from the P7s and they're determined to 'beat the teachers' next time!
  • Harvest

    Wed 26 Oct 2016
This morning we celebrated Harvest with 2 special assemblies. P5 - P7 pupils met first, followed by P1 - P4 classes. The choir and orchestra performed for us at both assemblies. Rev. J Lyons came along and spoke on a harvest theme using 'Mr Greedy' as an example. Everyone enjoyed looking at the harvest display organised by the teachers.
  • Maths Week Ireland - Ulster Museum

    Fri 21 Oct 2016

'Maths Week Ireland' is an annual event which takes place all across the island of Ireland each October.  It is the world's largest maths festival with events taking place in towns, cities, schools and with community groups.

The final event in NI is 'Maths in the City' at the Ulster Museum on Saturday October 22 from 12pm to 4.30pm with national and internationally renowned mathematicians entertaining the public with mazes, maths magic, puzzles and card tricks both inside and outside the Ulster Museum.

The event is free and all the family are welcome from tiny tots to mums, dads and grandparents. It is our experience that adults often get as much enjoyment out of these puzzles as their children. Come along and see for yourself! There will be plenty to entertain you for an afternoon with large maths puzzles, Bubblz the Clown and lots more!

  • Celebrating 50 Years!

    Sun 09 Oct 2016

This year, Cairnshill PS is celebrating our 50th birthday! A lot has changed since school first opened back in 1966 and we want to celebrate this special birthday with a few special events throughout the year.  Many of the events will be for our current pupils but parents and past pupils will get the chance to join in with some of them too.

Our first event takes place, tomorrow, Monday, 10th October when members of our School Council will release 50 (biodegradable) balloons from the Junior Playground.  All our classes will join in by watching the release.  If you're in the area around 1.30pm, look up and see if you can spot them!

Our family poster competition is already underway with everyone encouraged to take part. Paint, draw, colour, use technology - any media accepted - as you create an A3 'Celebrating 50 Years' poster.  All entries must be submitted by Monday, 24th October.  A 'judging panel' will choose three main winners from Foundation Stage (P1 & P2); Key Stage 1 (P3 & P4) and Key Stage 2 (P5-P7). We'll share some pictures of the entries on our website after winners are announced.

If you were a Cairnshill pupil 'back in the day' why not share your memories with us or send us any photos or memorabilia that you have.

  • Cash for Clobber

    Tue 04 Oct 2016

This year we are participating in the 'Cash for Clobber' scheme.  During the year, we will have a few collection dates when unwanted clothing can be brought to school. All of these items will be collected from school to be reused or recycled. Low grade material is used for industrial wipers and fillings; while good quality clothes are re-used in the developing world. All clean clothing, curtains, sheets, duvet covers, shoes (in pairs) and handbags are acceptable. Soiled items, duvets and pillows should not be brought.  Depending on the weight of items collected, we will receive some money for school funds.

Our first collection is on Monday, 10th October so please send items to school on that morning.
