  • Latest update...

    Mon 11 Dec 2017

After another view of the school and surrounding areas the following has been decided:

P3/4 Nativity will go ahead as planned in earlier post. These children are to come to school as normal - please do not rush to get in for 8.50! Exercise caution! The junior playground is to be used as a car park for these parents only.

All other children can come to school later than normal - around break time. It is hoped that some of the laneways and back entrance will be treated at around 8.00am.

Should parents need to leave children to school before this due to work commitments the school will accommodate this. We would stress that travelling around the school is still treacherous and that heavy early morning traffic would not be recommended. Parents should make this decision at their own risk.

As a school we have tried to assist in all ways as we realise that this is a very difficult time for all. Thank you for your patience and we hope that this compromise will allow the children and parents to have some flexibility.

  • Update...

    Mon 11 Dec 2017

Currently we hope school will be open tomorrow but with a new weather warning in place, we can't guarantee that. The situation will be assessed again in the next couple of hours and any updates posted here, on Twitter and on our school website.

Current plans are that the P3 & P4 performances will go ahead:-

10am for P3 parents (slight change to time)

    11am for P4 parents

The show might not be quite so 'polished' with the disruption to rehearsals but we're sure everyone will enjoy it regardless.

All P3 children should come to school dressed for the Nativity - Christmas or brightly coloured t-shirt with leggings or jeans.

P4 children should come dressed in their Nativity costumes. (If costume has been left in school, children should come in uniform and can change in school.)

Also, please note - there is no choir for P5 or P6 pupils tomorrow afternoon. Practice is for P7 only as these children will be singing at St George's Market on Friday.

Many thanks for your support and understanding.

  • Trees and Technology in P4S

    Mon 04 Dec 2017

The children in P.4S have been very excited about their tree topic following all of the “hands-on” experiences in Mount Stewart. They are now busy exploring and expressing their learning further through the use of ICT. The boys and girls looked at the school grounds in a whole new light as they studied trees around Cairnshill. IPads were used to take pictures which the pupils then transformed into very colourful and informative ‘Pic Collages’.

A new generation of movie-makers has produced stunning animations to show the seasonal changes of deciduous trees. There were plenty of problem-solving opportunities during film-making, not to mention talking and listening activities as they exchanged opinions on the finished masterpieces.

The enthusiastic young scientists have also begun work on PowerPoint presentations to exhibit their Mount Stewart learning. What tree-mendous experts P.4S have become!
