It is with regret that we write to inform you that our former Principal, Dr Brian Gilliland, has passed away following illness. Dr Gilliland arrived at Cairnshill PS as Principal in 1987 and was an integral part of the school for twenty years until his retirement in 2007.
During his twenty-year tenure, Dr Gilliland was able to oversee an increased enrolment in the school – going from a two form to a three form entry. Staff, parents and former pupils still speak fondly of their memories of Dr Gilliland and it is evident that he has left a legacy at Cairnshill which will remain for many years to come.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to his wife Liz and his entire family circle on behalf of the whole school community.

Enrolment for the Sacraments of First Confession, First Holy Communion and Confirmation
We no longer presume that parents wish their child to make the sacraments of First Confession, First Communion and Confirmation.
Parents must enrol their children for sacraments, whether in a Catholic /Non Catholic Primary School.
The procedure to be enrolled for Sacraments taking place in 2021
Due to the difficulties of gathering at this time, and for the foreseeable future, parents wishing to enrol their children for any of the Sacraments must do so by downloading an enrolment form for the Sacraments from the parish website
And return the form to the parish office at drumbo@downandconnor.org before 1st December 2020
Children preparing for First Holy Communion will be asked to take part in a “Do this in memory of Me” programme with their family/parents/guardians via the Church webcam and the parish website.
These dates will be confirmed later in the year.
Please Note
At this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the guidance and regulations we are unable to provide catechism or any catechetical programme for Children at State Schools.
Once we able to provide a programme we will advertise it on the parish website and Facebook page
As we approach this longer than unexpected half term break, please keep the school informed of any positive Covid cases within our school community.
A communication form can be sent to the Principal via the school app. It is crucial that the school receives this information especially within 48 hours of the school closing i.e. over this coming weekend up until Monday 19th October.
The school email may also be used to communicate during this time.
Packs of work have been sent home today. If your child is absent today, please arrange to have these collected before 4pm.
Keep checking the school app, website and social media for any further developments during the half term.
There are two methods of reporting a pupil absence:
Please do not use a Facebook message to report absences.
Please inform the SCHOOL OFFICE if your child has Covid-19 symptoms or is awaiting test results.
If your child is absent for a day or two for any particular reason, the usual school procedures apply. We can gather up the work that they have missed and arrange a day at the end of the week for collection.
Remote learning via Seesaw will only be used in the event of the whole class not attending due to isolation or in the event of another enforced school lockdown.
Please remember that staff will not respond to your communication messages, via Seesaw or the app, outside of normal working hours - this obviously includes weekends.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
I wish to inform you that a member of our school community has tested positive for Covid-19.
I have sought the most up-to-date advice from the Public Health Agency (PHA) and ensured that the affected area in the school remains closed and will now undergo an enhanced clean. The pupils and staff that are affected have been notified separately and will now be required to isolate for a period of 14 days in line with advice from PHA.
I do appreciate the concerns of parents, pupils and the wider school community and wish to reassure you that every precaution has been taken.
Ensuring the safe return of pupils and staff to school is my absolute priority and I will continue to monitor this situation carefully and keep you informed.
Please note - school remains open for other classes.
Parents with any questions or concerns are welcome to contact myself or Miss Marshall (VP) on 02890705122.
Kind regards,
J Currie
