Daisy Lodge visit

On Tuesday 16th September Mrs Graham, Mrs Myles and ten children from Primary 5 and Primary 6 had the absolute pleasure of attending a School's Open Day at Daisy Lodge, which is situated in the foothills of the Mourne mountains. Daisy Lodge is the Cancer Fund for Children's unique purpose built facility which can offer every family in N.I. who are dealing with cancer, a free therapeutic short break. Our group of twelve were absolutely amazed at this spectacular building and the wonderful facilities it has to offer. Some of those facilities include six beautifully furnished double family suites, a well being centre, a range of age appropriate play/games rooms, therapy suites, lounge areas, dining space and an outdoor play area.

After refreshments on arrival, our group was given a tour of these facilities and this was followed by a drumming workshop which was thoroughly enjoyed by ALL! Finally before lunch we were given a tour of the smaller residential log cabin 'Narnia,' which has been in operation for seven years. This was a very special experience for our pupils who were so impressed with all that they saw and heard. Just two of the many comments we heard from them were, 'This is paradise' and 'What is there not to like!'

It is wonderful to know there is such a fantastic place for families to get away to when they are going through such a difficult time. It was also great for the children to actually see first hand, the impact the money they raise in fund raising events throughout the school year, can and does have.
