Admissions Criteria

 

The school’s policy is to enroll only those children who have reached compulsory school age (ie children born on or before 1 July 2013).

 

P1 Intake

If the school is over-subscribed, children will be admitted according to the following criteria, applied in the order set down.

 

1.  Preference will be given to children who have attended Cairnshill Nursery Unit.

 

2.  Preference will be given to children who at the date of their application have a child of the family currently in attendance at the school.

 

3.  Preference will be given to children who at the date of their application had a child of the family previously enrolled at the school.

 

4.  Preference will be given to children of staff employed at the school.

 

5.  Preference will be given to children on the basis of the proximity of their home to the school

     (as measured by the AA route planner from the nearest gate; Beechill or Cairnshill by public

     road) ie children who live closest to the school will be given priority.

 

6.  In the event of a tie for last place at criterion 5, pupils will be selected for admission on the

     basis of initial letter of surname (as entered on birth certificate) in order set out below:-

NB:      It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that all information relevant to the admissions criteria is included on the application form (or attached to it).Please note:   A copy of your child’s birth certificate must accompany the application form.

 

All application forms received will be receipted.  If forms are posted, a stamped addressed envelope must be included with the form.  It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to ensure that all forms are left in the school office before the closing date.

 

Waiting List Policy

 

Applications for admission to P1 before the start of the school year:-

 

Letters will be issued advising parents of the primary school for which their child has been accepted/not accepted.  After this date all applications that were initially refused, late applications and new applications received will be treated equally and the criteria as listed above will be applied. Your child's name will be automatically added to this list and should a place arise, the school will contact you in writing.  The waiting list will be in place until 31/08/17.  Parents must inform the school in writing if they wish to have their child's name added to a new waiting list which will take effect from 01/09/17.

 

Applications for P1-P7 after the start of the school year with effect from 01/09/17:-

 

If a vacancy arises, the above criteria 2-6 will be applied provided no class from P1-P4 exceeds 30 pupils and the school remains within its total enrolment number.  It is the responsibility of parents to inform the school in writing if they wish to have their child's name added to the waiting list.
